About the Division
At our primary clinic at the Children’s Pavilion in downtown Richmond and satellite locations throughout Central Virginia, the VCU’s Department of Pediatric Gastroenterology treats children with gastrointestinal issues from the routine to the rare. In a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, we are proud to advance the field of pediatric gastroenterology by providing comprehensive patient care and teaching the next generation of skilled and compassionate pediatricians.
We treat the full spectrum of digestive conditions, including:
- Acid reflux
- Growth failure
- Tube feeding dependence
- Malabsorptive disorders (e.g., celiac disease)
- Bacterial overgrowth
- Eosinophilic esophagitis
- Congenital malformations
Education
Medical Students
Medical students often join us on inpatient and outpatient rotations during their M3 clerkship and M4 acting internship. When students express a particular interest in pediatric gastroenterology, we are happy to provide additional support and connect them with enhanced educational opportunities.
Residents
The Department of Pediatrics’ residency program allows trainees to individualize the experience by exploring subspecialties through elective rotations. Our fellowship-trained faculty provide robust, well-rounded and supportive learning experience for residents interested pursuing pediatric gastroenterology.
